Stanton St Bernard History Group presents a talk by Brigadier Simon Hutchings and Alan Wakefield (Chairman of the Salonika Campaign Society, historian and author of “Under the Devil’s Eye – Britain’s forgotten Army in Salonika”).
From Honeystreet to Salonika follows a Wiltshire Soldier of WW1.
On 24 April 1917 Frederick Doggett, of The Barge Inn, Honeystreet, was killed in Salonika during the first Battle of Doiran whilst serving with the 7th Battalion of the Wiltshire Regiment.
In June 2016, starting from Honeystreet, Brigadier Hutchings led Officers and Soldiers of the 104 Logistical Support Brigade on a battlefield study to Salonika, tracing the wartime experience of Frederick Doggett and the Wiltshire men and analysing the lessons for sustaining and conducting operations in similar contemporary environments.
